Frequently asked questions

How accurate is the BPM detection?

For music with a steady beat, the BPM is usually within 1 BPM. Detectors sometimes pick half or double the tempo a musician would count; use the ÷2 and ×2 buttons to fix that.

How is the key detected?

The audio is split into short frames, and the energy of each of the 12 pitch classes is measured with an FFT. That profile is compared with the Krumhansl–Schmuckler profiles of all 24 major and minor keys, and the best match wins. When the match is weak, the runner-up key is shown too.

What is the Camelot code?

The Camelot wheel numbers keys from 1 to 12, with A for minor and B for major. Tracks with the same code, a neighbouring number, or the same number with the other letter usually mix together without clashing.

Can I find songs with the same tempo?

Yes. Each result links to a SoundCloud search for tracks within 3 BPM of the detected tempo.

Is this tool free?

Yes. It is completely free, with no account, no watermark, and no limit on how many files you process.

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. Your audio is processed entirely in your browser and never leaves your device.

Which file formats are supported?

You can analyze MP3, WAV, FLAC, M4A, AAC, and OGG files, several at a time.
