Listen To The Ghosts
About this track
They want you to look away. They want the dead reduced to numbers. They want destroyed homes reduced to statistics. They want Palestinian lives erased from the story—and they want the world to become so accustomed to the killing that silence feels normal. LISTEN TO THE GHOSTS is a dark, minor-key piano protest song about Gaza, Palestine, and the human beings behind the headlines. Every name was somebody's child. Every home was somebody's world. Every photograph was somebody's life. Every empty chair belongs to someone who should still be sitting there. This is not a song about revenge. It is a song about refusing to forget. It is about listening to the voices buried beneath the rubble, listening to the survivors who are still speaking, and confronting the political powers that believe military force can erase a people, their history, and their right to exist. You can destroy buildings. You can destroy neighborhoods. You can censor images. You can manipulate headlines. You can bury bodies. But you cannot bury the truth forever. And you cannot erase people simply because powerful governments decide they are inconvenient. The piano mourns the dead. The voice remembers them. And the song asks the living a simple question: When the powerful tell you to look away—will you? Listen to the ghosts. Then speak their names. Remember their lives. Refuse the erasure. And fight for a world where no government, army, or political machine gets to decide that some human lives matter less than others. LYRICS There are voices in the rubble There are names beneath the stone There are photographs of faces That the world has never known There are mothers calling softly There are fathers asking why There are children in the silence Who were never meant to die And the night keeps all their secrets But the moon still knows their names You can bury all the evidence But you can't bury the flame Listen to the ghosts Listen to them calling Listen through the silence Listen through the falling There are streets that held their laughter There are rooms that held their dreams There are empty beds and schoolbooks And a thousand broken things There are songs that lost their singers There are stories left untold There are people still becoming Who were never allowed to grow old And the silence isn't silence When you know what came before Every wall becomes a witness Every doorway keeps a score Listen to the ghosts Listen to them calling Listen through the silence Listen through the falling They are more than numbers More than names erased You can tear down every home But you cannot erase a face If tomorrow brings another Who is marked to disappear Will we turn away in silence Will we pretend we didn't hear If they come to take the names away If they come to burn the past We will write them on our hearts So their memory can last You can silence one voice You can silence ten But a thousand buried voices Will come rising up again Listen to the ghosts Listen to them calling Listen through the silence Listen through the falling Every name remembered Is a stone against the lie Every voice that says we see you Is a reason to survive Listen to the ghosts Let their voices make us brave Not to become what we condemn Not to answer hate with hate But to stand against the power That decides who gets to live For the ones who disappeared For the ones they cannot erase Listen Listen to the ghosts They are not gone They are the names We refuse to forget They are the voices Of Gaza Of Palestine Still asking us Will you listen ------------------------- Written and Performed by Johnny Punish Produced by Johnny Punish
