About this track

Chicago’s Star Creature Records is proud to announce MIA’s debut album ‘In The Moonlight’. Miami’s queen of the bedroom boogie sound drops the long awaited 9 track album produced by Toronto’s Gil Masuda to much acclaim. The album features her patented sound of lo-fi intimate synth funk just primed for dancefloor but just as suitable for a night in - horizontal or vertical. ‘In The Moonlight’ collects 9 tracks of outer spaced inner-thought boogie-based tunes falling somewhere between synth-pop and synth-funk. It’s a party album ready for the dance floor or bedroom floor. MIA’s earnest yearning for love, respect, tenderness and the uncertainty that often flutters. It’s a new take on a classic sound that clearly is resonating as her sold out shows are packed with like-minded ladies who have listened enough to sing along. It’s becoming rarer for an artist to be able to put together an interesting selection of songs to pack an album without filler or redundant tracks by MIA and Masuda have done it here in classically fresh fashion - a timeless future grail for certain. The 2020’s has seen MIA become a cult favorite amongst funk and soul fans worldwide. A firm believer in less is more, she has released only a handful of 7”s until now - however all have become modern classics, selling out and fetching top dollar amongst collectors and DJs. Her 2020 sophomore single “Love Me Right” has become a modern boogie anthem leading to a constant flood of cross-country flights to gigs across the US. The song came to be when Star Creature’s Tim Zawada linked the then unknown MIA with Toronto’s Gil Masuda having just seen them both looking for studio partners and the rest is history. 2025 laid the foundation and brought the collaboration the contemporary funk world had been awaiting as MIA dropped her first official Star Creature Release “I Don’t Know b/w Key 2 Luv 7”. The success of this one flashed all the signals the world was ready for the long play format and MIA now serves us ‘In The Moonlight’ - an album ready to bump for all things in the night.
