About this track

Written, produced and performed by Ivar Agøy Lyrics adapted from the poem "The Cry" by Virna Sheard (1862-1943), with some modifications by Ivar Agøy They have laid them away; Even the strongest men will decay Locked in the earth till judgment day; "Dust unto dust" I have heard the priest say. They will never return; Though I weep my eyes blind, though I pray and yearn,-- Though the star-light goes out and the great suns burn Into whitest ash,--they will never return. So of weeping--no more; Tears fill the oceans from shore to shore; They have made the wind salt--the wind at my door; They harm the good ground--so of weeping--no more. "Not again!" "Not again!" Do you hear the sea singing that one refrain? The pine trees, the wind and the wearisome rain They all whisper it; "Never again!"--"Not again!" Who can tell me--who knows, Where our lonely souls travel? Whither it goes?-- Have they gone like the leaves?--Like yesterday's snows?-- Speak, oh Lord of Death! What have you done to those? They will never return; Even the strongest men will decay Locked in the earth till judgment day; "Dust unto dust"--They will never return!
