Occitan Valleys

About this track
Òc Valleys verse I In the valleys where the wind crosses Alps without an end, came a people slowly walking from the lands of Occità. They brought language, faith and memory, an ancestral heartbeat’s call, and on the slopes of Piedmont’s mountains they began to build it all. Verse II Fleeing from the ancient conflicts, from the flames of Languedoc, Cathars, shepherds, weary pilgrims sought a place of light and hope. In the mountains they defended every word and every song, and the echo of their stories still surrounds the land they own. Chorus Valleys of Òc, a voice unbroken, ancient song of liberty. Through the mountains lives their story, a returning heart that speaks. Verse III Under rule of House of Savoy the high mountains sheltered them, and though Italy united, their old language never bent. Hidden villages preserved it, passed along from heart to heart, like a thread that keeps its strength when the world is torn apart. Verse IV Now the Occitanian voices still rise proudly when they sing, in Calabria and Piedmont their old memory takes wing. They’re a people who endure, with a story without end, leaving footprints in the snow and in history’s open hand. Chorus (final) Valleys of Òc, a voice unbroken, ancient song of liberty. Through the mountains lives their story, a returning heart that speaks.
