Nothing to Learn

About this track

We never learn. We’re gonna just keep doing this over and over again, it would appear. This track is the first of a new project with my longtime bandmate and collaborator Dave DeSimone.  The goal was to make something that sounded very different from my other work – so we applied a different process. Rather than a fully fleshed-out narrative, this song started as a small concept that Dave & I developed together.  Hope you like the result. Dave did all the production and made most of the creative decisions on arrangements and mixing. This overall sound was greatly enhanced by another longtime bandmate and collaborator, Peter Fernandez, who contributed a stunning bassline and synth pads. Not sure what genre this fits into. A departure from my 80s-tinged alt-rock post-punk Americana, maybe this would be considered trip hop, glitch hop, or electroclash? Open to your categorizations.  One thing that remains the same is the message – I can't change that about myself as an artist. I have to report on what I observe. It seems that we're determined to stay on this path of intentional destruction despite history's obvious lessons. I don't understand it, I don't accept it, and I don't know what to do about it. This is my way of coping and hoping that those who need to hear it, will hear it. If this – or any of my work – awakens you, it's a win. If you're already awake, then my hope is that you feel seen and understood.
