Though commercially unsuccessful in his lifetime, he is now regarded as a foundational figure in queer music history. Jobriath was explicitly and unapologetically gay, openly discussing his sexuality in interviews and incorporating homoerotic imagery into his art. Jobriath was not coded, closeted, or ironic.
