There Is A Hope

About this track
Helen and I worked on this track as a funeral tribute for her mother, Joy Sheat, who died in August. We played it at her thanksgiving service. I've always found the song very moving – Stuart Townend's lyrics as beautiful as ever, centering on the certainty of hope that followers of Jesus can have through life and also when facing death. But the only recorded version available wasn't really suited to the occasion, so I chose to arrange the piano and strings in a more suitable way, and Helen sang the lead and devised and played the flute solo. Helen won't mind me telling you she found it hard to sing – not just because of why she was doing it, but also because the melody has a very wide range! She might be embarrassed by the performance, but I think she's no reason to be – and the occasional waver in her voice adds to the emotional impact. Hope you like it. The song is covered by the CCLI license system for use in churches so, if your church wishes to use this arrangement, I'm very happy to provide the sheet music on request.
