Bosons and Bozeman, Baby!
by Bill Leyden
About this track
His best friend is a bona fide rocket scientist, equally comfortable with bosons, charmed quarks and wave equations. He can calculate mileage to a tenth and redesign cruise control over lunch. There is, however, one remaining technical question: whether he's actually on the road. lyrics [VERSE 1] Oh, yeah, my best friend's a rocket scientist... bona fide. We argue bosons over lunch, strange attractors, quantum physics, charmed quarks at dinner. [VERSE 2] That notebook in his car, kept mileage accurate to a tenth. Twenty-four point six last Tuesday. Twenty-four point seven since. [PRE-CHORUS] Says cruise control was all wrong. I asked him what he meant. [CHORUS] “Specific fuel consumption, baby. That's what ought to set the speed.” Yeah? “What happens going uphill?” He stared at me. “Well, didn't think of that exactly.” [VERSE 3] Fills a blackboard with wave equations, then missed the on-ramp to the freeway he'd been taking twenty years. [BREAK] [VERSE 4] Somewhere outside Bozeman he leaned toward the glass. Both hands steady on the wheel, deep in thought. [OUTRO] Said, “Am I on the road?” Looked out my window. “Could be.” Looked again. “I sure hope so.” Bosons and Bozeman, baby! (Oooo)
