The music you have was recorded in December of 1993. I had just purchased The Kaleidoscope, a tavern in Salem, Oregon, with the idea that I would get away from the politics of passing legislation and, instead, feed and entertain customers. Like all new establishments, there were no customers—just the idea and hope that we would eventually have them. We did, however, have a sound system and lots of backing tracks for singing, with the idea of having karaoke—assuming we ever really did have customers. So, one wet, cold, wintery night, (that’s all there really are in Oregon in December), I began making a tape (you see, the music was on magnetic tape and the machine had a motor that moved the tape forward under magnetic heads….), Oh, don’t worry about, how it worked, trust me, it did work. So, on that rainy December night, I recorded and sang these songs with a voice that I no longer have. These were some of my favorite songs to sing, and thanks to hoarding by Cousin Judy and editing by my daughter Jules, we are now able to send this music to you. We hope you enjoy them.
