Just Visiting This Planet
About this track
Famed Astrophysicist Neil DeGrasse Tyson just wrote a new book called "Just Visiting This Planet" and it inspired me to write this song. So I did it in the shimmering glow of 1980s melancholy. “Just Visiting This Planet” tells the story of a lonely traveler from a distant galaxy who lands on Earth searching for belonging — only to discover he doesn’t fit in. Blending the emotional depth of The Cure, the cinematic pulse of INXS, and the defiant edge of Billy Idol, the song captures the ache of alienation and the quiet beauty of letting go. Driven by atmospheric synths, echoing guitars, and a haunting vocal, it feels like a message from the stars — a reflection on what it means to be human, to yearn for connection, and to realize that sometimes, home isn’t a place at all. At once cosmic and heartbreakingly intimate, “Just Visiting This Planet” is a bittersweet anthem for anyone who’s ever felt like they didn’t belong — a traveler passing through, leaving only starlight behind. LYRICS Silver eyes in the mirror glass Falling stars in a world too fast Signals fade in electric skies No one hears my lullabies I walk these streets of neon dreams They look right through me what does it mean I reach for hands that disappear No welcome signs for strangers here I thought I’d find a heartbeat like mine But love’s a language lost in time I'm... I’m just visiting this planet Passing through your atmosphere Looking for a reason but there’s nothing keeping me here You say I don’t belong Well maybe that’s true I’m just visiting this planet Not staying with you You you Midnight hum of a dying moon Cities fade into their own cocoon Radio ghosts on static waves Calling out from shallow graves I gave my heart to the human kind They tore it down just to satisfy A cosmic drifter skin and bone Dreaming of a place called home You promised light but I found stone Now it’s time to drift alone I’m just visiting this planet Passing through your atmosphere Looking for a reason but there’s nothing keeping me here You say I don’t belong Well maybe that’s true I’m just visiting this planet Not staying with you You you Fade to black No contact made Orbiting hearts just drift away Another world Another try One more tear before goodbye I’m just visiting this planet One light year too soon Dreaming under your cold blue moon You say I don’t belong I guess that’s true Never from this world Just passing through Passing through Stars align then disappear Static whispers no one hears I’ll keep moving endless flight A lonely spark in endless night ================================== Written and performed by Johnny Punish Produced by Punish Studios #neildegrassetyson #newwave #postpunk #alternative
