My flatmate and I had been sick for a month, I was finally strong enough to pick up my guitar and play this little mantra of a riff. These lyrics take place in Nevada City, California, at the cemetery on the top of the hill, where my dearest friend and I would picnic and visit the grave of a long-gone infant. Once, under the moonlight, we brought my harp up there and I played for the dead. We’d read poetry to each other and to the residents, discuss our sadness and our gratitude, say hello to the man who was living in the 100-year old ponderosa above us that would eventually be chopped down by PG&E. This song is for the friend who brings poetry everywhere, to everyone.
